The turned foot of the tumbler beside a glass of water that has gone amber overnight, with Vijaysar leaves.

Water poured out after one night. Somewhere between straw and weak tea.

You will know on the first morning.

Fill it before bed. What you pour out is a pale amber, and that colour is the heartwood. It is the only readout this object gives you, and it is the reason you do not have to take our word for any of this.

Fill it tonight.

The whole ritual takes a minute.

It is printed on the box in three lines, and there is nothing more to it.

10 p.m.

Fill it with water.

Tap water, filtered water, whatever you already drink. To the top. Leave it on the counter and go to bed.

Overnight

Soak overnight.

The inside wall is left raw, so the water sits directly against the heartwood the whole time.

6 a.m.

Drink it in the morning.

The water will have gone a light amber. Drink it, rinse the tumbler, fill it again for tonight.

It lasts for weeks. Then it tells you.

A tumbler typically stays active for several weeks of daily use. When the overnight water no longer turns amber, the heartwood is spent and the tumbler should be replaced.

We would rather print that here than let you find out by drinking plain water for a year. Nothing is added to the wood to keep the colour going, and nothing can be — the inside is bare heartwood, and there is nowhere for a top-up to hide.

Two hands turning a Vijaysar tumbler on a lathe on our Saharanpur floor, shavings across the forearms and the bed of the machine.

Our Saharanpur floor. The tumbler is turned.

Turned by hand in Saharanpur.

Only the heartwood is used — the dense, dark centre of the trunk. Each tumbler is turned and hollowed on a lathe from one solid piece. It is not laminated, not joined, not stained and not coated.

We make it on our own floor in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Indian Roots is the house brand of Inception Global Trade Solutions, which has been turning and exporting from that floor since 2016.

The tumbler on its side, looking straight into the open bore and the bare, unfinished heartwood inside.
The Vijaysar tumbler standing upright: turned heartwood with incised rings above and below, and a flared foot.

Nothing between the water and the wood.

The outside is sanded and hand-polished. The inside is left raw on purpose. It is the bare bore of the heartwood, and it is the only surface your water ever touches.

What this is, and what it isn’t.

What it is

A traditional Ayurvedic wellness object. Vijaysar heartwood has been part of Ayurvedic tradition and everyday Indian life for centuries, and this tumbler is the oldest way of experiencing it: water, wood, time. It is a small daily ritual, not a treatment plan.

What it isn’t

It is not a medical device and not a substitute for medical care. It does not replace medication, testing or your physician’s advice, and we make no claim that it treats or cures any condition. If you are managing a diagnosed condition, tell your doctor you have started drinking this.

Questions.

How do I use it?

Fill the tumbler with drinking water at night and leave it on the counter. In the morning the water has a light amber tint from the heartwood. Drink it, rinse the tumbler, and fill it again for tonight.

How long does one tumbler last?

A tumbler typically keeps colouring the water for several weeks of daily use. When the overnight water no longer turns amber, the heartwood is spent and the tumbler should be replaced. The card in the box says about forty-five days; most people get considerably longer.

How do I pay?

Checkout takes about a minute and you do not need an account. Pay by UPI, debit or credit card, or net banking through Razorpay. Use code WELCOME10 at checkout for 10% off your first order.

How much water does it hold?

About 100 ml — a small glass, which is the traditional amount for the overnight infusion. It stands 155 mm tall and weighs around 190 g.

Is it safe to drink from?

Yes. Nothing has been added: no lacquer, wax or sealant to leach, and no coating to break down. Rinse it with water and stand it upside down to dry. Avoid soap, which sits in the open grain.

Is every tumbler exactly the same?

No two are identical. Vijaysar is a natural material, so grain, colour and density vary slightly from piece to piece — that variation is part of working with real heartwood rather than a manufactured material.

Is the wood genuine Vijaysar?

Yes. Each tumbler is turned from genuine Vijaysar (Pterocarpus marsupium) heartwood, with the interior left unfinished so the water sits directly against the wood. The colour change is your own test — you will see it on the first morning.

What does the water taste like?

Faintly woody and a little bitter. Closer to weak tea than to anything sweet. Most people stop noticing within a week.

How do I clean it?

Rinse with water and air-dry it upside down. No soap, no dishwasher, no boiling water — anything that strips or seals the inside works against the point of it.

When will it arrive?

Orders leave our workshop in Saharanpur on same day, and shipping within India is included in the price.

Is this for me?

It is for anyone who wants a simple, traditional morning ritual with a natural object. It is not a medical product and makes no medical claims. If you are managing a health condition, keep following your doctor’s advice and let them know you have started drinking this.
